What is the scenario you chose for this assignment: A high school poetry club wants to create a flyer to advertise their upcoming Spoken Word Night. Attendance for after school events has been low so they wanted something that would draw attention to high school students to boost ticket sales.
-
What are your ideas for meeting digital design: I wanted to create a flyer that gave a trendy vibe of attending an event that mirrored a hipster open mic night.
-
What is your thought behind your logo design: The design of a female silhouette was meant to show strength and power behind the teenage voice. The text “SLAM Poetry” indicates the type of poetry to be presented at the event. The text “Write and speak from the heart” was meant to help the viewer grasp a better understanding of what SLAM poetry entails.

What changes did you make to the original Creative Commons image (please include the URL to the original image). I changed the image color from black to white. I then removed the headband and earring from the original image. I shifted a few features on the profile of the silhouette female with the eraser tool from the editing software. Then, I flipped the image because it was more appealing on the right side (to adhere to Gestalt’s Principles concerning spacing on a graphic). The last change I made was adding text. The text inside the silhouette reads, “SLAM Poetry,” while the text above the head reads, “Write & Speak from the Heart.”
